ICE TIME: Get to know assistant coach Dane Jackson
Q. What is your nickname?
A. The guys here call me Jax. Back in college, it was the ‘Lamp Lighter.’ Scott Hennen gave me that after I was lucky enough to score four goals against Minnesota.
Q. What’s your favorite TV show?
A. I have to go with The Blacklist right now.
Q. What’s your favorite movie?
Q. What’s your favorite restaurant on the road?
A. Joe Fortes in Vancouver.
Q. If you have to cook, what’s your go-to?
A. Anything on the grill. Probably steak.
Q. What’s your favorite part of Grand Forks?
A. I’d say the people in our community and also being involved with the UND hockey program. That’s a big part of why we want to be here. It’s a great town to raise kids, too.
Q. What’s something people may not know about your hometown of Castlegar, B.C.?
A. One kind of cool story is that it’s a really small town and one of my best friends growing up was Travis Green. He played in the NHL for the New York Islanders, and we actually got to play a couple games together with the Islanders. Pretty cool that two little kids who were best friends got to play some NHL games together.
Q. Who was your childhood hero?
A. I grew up in Edmonton for a bit when they were winning Stanley Cups, so I really liked the Oilers and Gretzky.
Q. Do you have a favorite band or type of music?
A. I like U2. I’ve seen them in concert a few different times in New York City and Chicago.
Q. Did you have a favorite class or professor at UND?
A. My strategic management classes with Dr. Porter. He was really good. He ran some businesses and had a lot of great real world stories.
Q. What’s the last book you’ve read?
A. I’m currently reading ‘Leave No Doubt’ by Mike Babcock. It’s about when they won the gold medal in the last Olympics and all of the prep they did coaching.
Q. Do you have any pregame rituals?
A. As a staff, we always shake hands with each other before we go to the bench. We always shake in the same order and say the same kind of things to each other.
