Grand Forks police arrest 12 for DUI on St. Patrick’s weekend
Focusing on the St. Patrick’s Day weekend, Grand Forks police made 12 arrests for driving under the influence, said Lt. Mike Ferguson.
One arrest was made Friday, four on Saturday and seven made Sunday, mostly in the early morning hours, Ferguson said.
That’s more than a typical weekend, he said, as partiers obviously celebrated early for St. Patrick’s Day. There were no DUI arrests made in the city Monday, on St. Patrick’s Day proper.
It appears all the citations were misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or other substances, Ferguson said.
Several officers worked on overtime status to buttress the regular patrol officers. A grant from the North Dakota Department of Transportation was used to fund the enhanced enforcement effort, Ferguson said. The effort looked for DUI and loud parties
Nobody was injured or otherwise hurt or hospitalized from intoxication or drunken driving accidents in the city over the weekend, he said.
One of those arrested also was cited for being a minor consuming alcohol.
