Grand Forks man sentenced for gun charges
A Grand Forks man was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Fargo Monday to 15 years in prison for possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon.
Ryan Ronald Edward Mountain, 33, was found in possession of a Hi-Point 9mm pistol and ammunition July 26, 2013, when Grand Forks Police and the Grand Forks Narcotics Task Force searched a residence and arrested Mountain on an unrelated outstanding warrant, according to a U.S. Department of Justice news release.
Mountain was also arrested after a 90-minute standoff with police in September 2013 when, according to police, he said he had a pistol and a hostage before officers talked him into cooperating.
Mountain’s previous felonies include: delivery of marijuana in Grand Forks County in 2001, possession of drug paraphernalia, aggravated assault and two counts of terrorizing in Grand Forks County in 2005 and aggravated assault in Cass County in 2005.
Mountain’s sentencing Monday is for 15 years imprisonment, followed by five years of supervised release and a $100 fine.
The case was investigated by Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, Grand Forks Police Department, Grand Forks Narcotics Task Force and Grand Forks County State’s Attorney’s Office.
