Grand Forks family escapes early morning fire
A Grand Forks family escaped injury when a fire broke out early this morning in their home.
According to a news release from Grand Forks Fire Department, heavy smoke and fire were billowing out of the home, located at 5021 Copper Gate Drive, when they arrived shortly after the fire call at 4:55 a.m.
The occupants already had escaped through a bedroom window by the time firefighters arrived, according to Battalion Chief Rob Corbett.
The fire, which was quickly extinguished, resulted in an estimated $75,000 in damage to the building and contents.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Altru Ambulance and Grand Forks Police Department assisted the fire department on the scene.
