GIRLS STATE HOCKEY: Braves down Williston in OT
Shaylynn Mack scored at 5:45 of overtime to give Mandan a 3-2 win over Williston on Friday in the consolation round of the North Dakota girls state tournament at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
The Braves advance to today’s fifth-place game against Minot.
Minot downed Fargo North 3-1 in the other girls consolation game.
Today’s fifth-place game is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at the REA Olympic rink
Mandan scored the first goal but had to rally to force overtime.
Mariah Marsh’s goal at 8:50 of the first period gave the Braves a 1-0 lead but Williston score the next two goals, from Keely Kleven and Elizabeth Goebel. The goals came in the second period.
Mandan forced overtime on Mack’s goal at 13:23 of the third period.
Maddy McLees stopped 26 shots for Williston while Mandan’s Chelsey Norton stopped 25 shots.
Fargo North 1
Minot scored two goals in the first and one in the second to advance.
Sydney Boyce and Alissa Ewan scored the first-period goals at 6:17 and 11:58.
The Majettes picked up their third goal from Alaynee Thompson at 13:35 of the second.
North got on the board on Anna Erickson’s goal at 11:22 of the third period.
Minot’s Sydney Swanson stopped 17 shots while North’s Hannah Sivertson made 24 saves.
