Watson knocked down five 3-pointers — four in the third quarter — to help the No. 3-ranked Skyhawks to a 55-36 win over Kidder County in the quarterfinals of the North Dakota Class B girls basketball state tournament Thursday at the Fargodome.

Entering state, Watson had only knocked down 12 3s all season. The 5-foot-10 junior could not miss in a key stretch against the Pirates.

“I have never had that many 3-pointers in a game before,” said Watson, who finished with a team-high 18 points. “The first few went in so I just kept shooting.”

Watson was 5-for-7 from beyond the arc. Shiloh Christian was 57 percent (8-for-14) from 3-point range.

“Regan’s shooting dictated the flow of the game the whole second half,” Shiloh Christian head coach Jim Petrick said.

Shiloh Christian (24-1) advance to the semifinals and play No. 7-ranked Beach at 6:30 p.m. today.

“We have struggled with our outside shooting all year, but once we knocked a few down that loosened that zone up for us and really opened up some driving lanes,” Petrick said.

The Skyhawks led 26-20 at halftime.

Kidder County trailed 21-12 with 4 minutes, 33 seconds left in the first half, but got two field goals from Sadie Rohrich down the stretch to help narrow the gap.

“Kidder County is such an aggressive team,” Petrick said. “They are very quick and they cause a lot of body to body contact. In the first half we were reaching so we talked about not fouling them in the second half and force them to make tough shots over the top of us.”

Rohrich led the Pirates (19-6) with 12 points.

Kidder County plays No. 2-ranked Thompson at 1 p.m. today in the consolation semifinals.

Senior guard Gabby Wilkinson added 13 points for the Skyhawks.
