Q. How did you get your start with Britton Transport?
A. After starting a career in transportation working as a pilot in corporate aviation, I began flying for a trucking company out of the area. After transitioning into an office role, I began learning the ropes of the industry and just how diverse and challenging it is. Because of the relationships established, knowledge gained and well-rounded experience, I was offered the opportunity at Britton. After company founder Dave Britton partnered with Bison Transport in 2011 the management team selected me to lead Britton Transport and its growth in the U.S. market.
Q. How have you seen the business or industry change over the years?
A. Transportation has changed tremendously in the 18 years I have been involved in the industry. We have seen several rounds of regulation changes in regard to the hours our driving professionals are allowed to work and extensive equipment emission regulations as well. These regulations have directed the industry to focus more on safety and on protection of the environment. These are also two of the core values of Britton Transport.
Q. What kind of cargo does Britton transport?
A. We haul a diverse range of cargo, including machinery, steel, building materials and supplies, foodstuffs, temperature-controlled goods and general commodities. Britton Transport also provides logistics services, including warehousing, cross docking, third-party traffic management, truck brokerage, and storage trailer rental.
Q. Has the activity in the Oil Patch had an effect on you?
A. With increased activity in the Oil Patch we have seen increased work options for our driving professionals. It is exciting to see the vibrancy in that area and while we do not work directly with the oil industry, we are providing weekly transportation services through our divisions to support the efforts in western North Dakota.
