Authorities in California suspect foul play in the death of a 32-year-old former Thief River Falls woman who was found over the weekend in Riverside, Calif.

She has been identified as Jamie Lea Harmer, who authorities believe moved from Thief River Falls to California this past November, according to a news release from the Riverside Police Department.

While a cause of death has not yet been determined, authorities believe she was a victim of foul play, according to the report. She was described as a transient. Although her body was discovered near railroad tracks, police said she had not been struck by a train.

Police have been in touch with local authorities in the Thief River Falls area to try to find more information that may help in the investigation, according to Sgt. David Amador.

“She’s from that area. I’m assuming she grew up there,” he said.

Amador is hoping someone who knew Harmer in the Thief River Falls area has kept in touch with her and can help investigators solve the case.

“We know she spent time in San Diego County from November 2013 to late February 2014,” he said. “Her whereabouts from the end of February 2014 to her body being found on April 27 in Riverside is what we are trying to piece together.”

She is believed to have traveled from the Ramona, Calif., area to Riverside sometime during that period, he said. Riverside is about 85 miles north of Ramona.

Harmer was arrested twice in San Diego County during that time: Jan. 4 on a charge of battery on a police officer and Feb. 13 on a charge of being under the influence of drugs, according to the news release. She was released from jail on Feb. 18.

Investigators say they believe she was in the Ramona area on Feb. 26 and had been planning to travel to Arizona to visit family, according to the report.

Police are requesting anybody with information on Jamie Harmer contact Riverside Police Department Detective Jim Simons at (951) 353-7138 or Detective Jim Brandt at (951) 353-7137.
