MANVEL, N.D. — Fire destroyed a garage on the south end of the city Friday.

Firefighters arrived on scene between 2:30 and 3 p.m., said fire Chief Steve Schumer of the Manvel Fire Department. As of about 6 p.m., firefighters were still on scene cleaning.

There were some people in the house at the time of the fire, but they escaped safely and no one was hurt, Schumer said.

Firefighters contained the blaze to the garage, which was a total loss. Some parts of the house were minimally damaged by smoke, Schumer said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Thompson and Gilby fire departments assisted on scene, as well as Grand Forks County Sherriff’s Office and Altru Ambulance.
