Priscilla Shirer to speak to GF church

Hope Church, 1601 17th Ave. S., Grand Forks, will host a simulcast with best-selling author and Bible teacher Priscilla Shirer from 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. April 5. Tickets are $10 and can be bought by contacting the church.

Area Lutheran churches to hold forums on bishop

Lutheran churches in eastern North Dakota will hold open forums for the 2014 bishop nominees for the Eastern North Dakota Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church.

United Lutheran Church, 324 Chestnut St., Grand Forks, will host the forum from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. April 5 and Our Savior’s Lutheran church, 612 14th Ave. N.E., Devils Lake, will host the forum from 7 to 9 p.m. April 5.

The nominees are the Revs. Terry Brandt, Chris Gaule, Lynn Ronsberg, Mark Strobel and Matt Valan. Biographical information can be found atwww.eandsynod.org.

Fertile church to hold women’s luncheon

St. Joseph’s Catholic Church is hosting a spring women’s luncheon from10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 5 at the Fertile (Minn.) Community Center, 101 S. Mill St.

Celebrating women and the special bonds they share with friends and family, the event includes a meal prepared by Erickson’s Smokehouse, a silent auction, prizes and a keynote address by motivational speaker Renee Rongen. Tickets are $30 and are available at www.lipsticklaughterlife.com.

GF church to host spaghetti dinner

Holy Family Church, 1018 18th Ave. S., Grand Forks, will host a spaghetti and meatball dinner from 12 to 6 p.m. April 6. The cost is a free will offering, which will be donated to support human services.

GF meditation center to hold retreat

The Lotus Meditation Center, 2908 University Ave., Grand Forks, is hosting Mark Nunberg, who leads the Common Ground Meditation Center in Minneapolis, for a spring retreat April 11 to 13. The cost is $95.

Nunberg will also host a free Dharma Talk from 7 to 8:30 p.m. April 11 that the community is invited to attend.

Red Lake Falls church to host spring boutique

Bethany Lutheran Church, 1315 Sixth St. N.E., Red Lake Falls, Minn., is hosting a spring boutique and luncheon with a Scandinavian flavor from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 12. The event will include a demonstration of making lefse as well as a meal featuring potato klub and ham.

GF church to host Passover presentation

Valley Christian Center, 3920 Cherry St., Grand Forks, is hosting “Christ in the Passover” at 7 p.m. April 18.

The presentation will recreate the traditional Passover service and explain how it foreshadowed Jesus’ death and resurrection. There will also be a table set up with items traditionally used at the Passover meal.

GF church to hold lecture, workshops

UND Christus Rex Lutheran Campus Center, 3012 University Ave., Grand Forks, is hosting “Re-Thinking How Christianity Began” April 25 to 26. Presented by scholars from the Jesus Seminar, it will look at the emergence of Christianity in the first and second centuries.

The event starts with a lecture titled “Violence, Belonging and the Beginnings of Christianity” from 7:30 to 9 p.m. April 25 and continues with workshopsApril 26. The first workshop from 9:30 a.m. to noon will cover how traditional views of Christian beginnings need to be re-thought based on recent scholarship, while the second workshop from 1:30 to 4 p.m. will use the poem “The Thunder: Perfect Mind” to explore what new views of Christian origins might mean in the 21st century.

The lecture is $20, while the workshops are $30 each, or attendees can preregister for all events for $60 by April 11. All events are free for UND students.
