Early morning fire damages Grand Forks apartment

Residents of a Grand Forks apartment complex put out a fire early Sunday morning but not before it caused thousands of dollars in damage and sent one person to the hospital. 

The Grand Forks Fire Department was called to 3325 S. 10th St. just after 7 a.m. Arriving on scene, firefighters encountered smoke in a third floor unit and person in need of medical attention. The individual, whose name was not released, was transported to Altru Hospital with unknown injuries, according to a news release. 

The fire was put out by another complex resident before the department arrived but caused an estimated $7,000 in damage to the apartment. The fire's cause is unknown and still under investigation.
