Iceland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Gunnar Bragi Sveinsson, and other Icelandic dignitaries will be in Mountain, N.D., this weekend for the 115th Deuce of August celebration, organizers said.

The event is a celebration of Icelandic culture, commemorating the day Iceland received its constitution from Denmark and setting it on the path of independence.

Other dignitaries include Gudmundur Arni Stefansson, Iceland’s ambassador to the United States, and Hjalmar W. Hannesson, Iceland’s consul general in Winnipeg. Organizers said 98 tourists from Iceland will also be there.

The Mountain area has some the highest concentration of Icelandic Americans in the country.

The celebration begins with street dances Friday and Saturday nights, and a parade at 10 a.m. Saturday with Parade Marshal Merlyn Dalsted, an entertainer from Svold, N.D. Other events include an old-time dance Saturday and the State Tractor Pull on Sunday. For a complete schedule of events, go to August2nd.com.
