UND adds pair

UND has announced the additions of Dakotah Sparrman, a transfer from Arkansas Little Rock, and Aaliyah Danielson, a recruited walk-on. The pair will join the team for the 2014 fall season.

“Dakotah Sparrman is going to be a great addition to our attack and Aaliyah Danielson is a great kid and a great competitor,” UND coach Matt Kellogg said. “Sparrman has the ability to score from distance as well as in close; we are very excited to have her with us. Danielson is a very physical and aggressive player. She will immediately boost our team’s athleticism and add to our competitive environment.”

Sparrman played in 15 of 18 games as a reserve last year for UALR.

UND drops two in home opener

The University of North Dakota opened its home schedule Friday by dropping a doubleheader to Northern Colorado at Apollo Park.

UND lost to the Bears 10-6 in game one and 10-2 in the second.

“Today was just a difference between a team that got hits in timely situations and a team that didn’t,” said UND coach Eric Oakley. “We didn’t get the timely hits that we needed to be able to compete today.”

Mikayla Duffy led the Bears in game one going 3-for-4 and 3 RBI. UND was led by D Jantzer who went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Shortstop Caralyn Chewning also went 3-for-4 for UND.

Duffy also led Northern Colorado in game two, going 3-for-4 with 5 RBI and two runs. Janzter and Chewning each went 2-for-3 for UND.

UND dropped to 4-35 overall and 2-8 in conference play.
