Buck tabbed WBCA All-Region

ATLANTA — The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced Tuesday the All-Region nominees for the 2014 WBCA Division I Coaches’ All-America Team. UND senior Madi Buck was one of four members among the Region 7 honorees.

Buck, the Big Sky Conference Most Valuable Player, led North Dakota to its first-ever league regular season co-championship, a conference tournament title and a berth in the NCAA Division I tournament. She poured-in a team-high 16 points per game this season and added 7.3 rebounds to go over 1,200 points and 750 rebounds for her career.

She becomes the first all-region honoree for North Dakota in its Division I era (since 2008). The Bismarck native was a unanimous selection to the all-Big Sky Conference first team this season and was also named to the conference’s postseason all-tournament team.

The selection committee will select the 10-member WBCA Division I Coaches’ All-America Team from the 52 All-Region honorees.

  •  Baseball: UND has moved this weekend’s Western Athletic Conference series with Northern Colorado to Bismarck, due to field conditions at Kraft Field and anticipated weather. The three-game set will be played at Shiloh Christian High School, beginning Friday at 1 p.m. UND (3-12 overall, 3-3 WAC) will also postpone next Tuesday’s home non-conference matchup with Minnesota-Crookston. No makeup date has been announced.
  •  Swimming & Diving: The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) recently announced its Scholar All-America Teams with both UND men’s and women’s teams among the honorees. The Team Scholar All American award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams, who have achieved a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The award is presented twice annually. The UND women’s team ranked 33rd among all NCAA Division I programs with its 3.41 cumulative grade points average. The North Dakota men ranked 35th among men’s teams with a 3.17 Fall cumulative GPA.
