Riders, Knights make state
WAHPETON, N.D. — Grand Forks Red River and Grand Forks Central finished fifth and sixth at the East Region tournament on Wednesday, grabbing the final two spots at next week’s state meet.
Eighth-grader Gavin Loscheider’s 76 led the Roughriders to a fifth-place finish with 327. Adam Van Raden, an all-conference selection, shot an 83 for the Riders. The Knights finished two strokes back. Central’s Riley Peterson, an all-conference pick, led the way with a 78.
West Fargo won the meet with a total of 307. Packer golfer Riley Johnson was the medalist, shooting a 72 at Bois de Sioux Golf Course in Wahpeton.
“The weather was great but the scores weren’t that good in Wahpeton,” Red River coach Merle Mikkelsen said. “There’s trouble there. There are trees and it’s a little tighter than some of the other courses. The team scores were a little high.”
The state meet is Tuesday and Wednesday at Jamestown Country Club.
