Clarence L. Thompson, 86, of Grand Forks, died Saturday, April 12, 2014, at the Halstad Living Center in Halstad, MN.

Clarence was born October 19, 1927 to Ole & Annie (Nelson) Thompson in Grand Forks. He attended school in Reynolds, ND. He served in the US Army and attended Aakers Business College. He married Eleanor Mae Coss in 1950. They lived and farmed in the Buxton area for 58 years. While farming he also worked winters at the University of ND plant services for 30 years. He retired from farming in 1997. Clarence and Eleanor moved to Grand Forks in 2008.

The most important things in life to Clarence were his family, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He would drop anything and to spend time or help them with something. He will long be remembered for the tractor rides he gave the grandkids, flying kites every spring, sledding in the winter, reading comics, endless supply of ice cream treats, swinging kids in the tire swing and his generosity and kindness that was shown to anyone he came in contact with.

He is survived by his wife Eleanor of 64 years and sons Dana of Dickinson, ND, Doug (Debbie), Buxton, ND, Daughters Deb (David) Cook, West Fargo, ND, Dawn (Paul) Santangelo, East Grand Forks, MN, Darla (Joel) Gunderson, Grand Forks, ND, Grandchildren Hilary (Bob) Bertsch, West Fargo, ND, Nathan Brend, Seattle, WA, Ashley (Jared) Lenz, Waconia, MN, Devin Power, Minneapolis, MN, Heather (Chris) Thompson, Houston, TX, Kristi (Kelly) Larson, Fargo, ND, Aaron Thompson, Fargo, ND, Kari Thompson, Fountain Hills, AZ, Jill (Brett) Beil, West Fargo, ND, Nick Waslien, Atlanta, GA, Matt (Sarah) Gunderson, Cincinnati, OH, Jake (Stephanie) Gunderson, Duluth, MN, and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Arthur, Olgar & Oscar, sisters, Thelma Danielson, Gladys Severson, Ida Danielson & Olive Sproule.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Alzheimers Association 4357 13th Ave NW Suite 203 Fargo, ND 58103, or Immanuel Lutheran Church of Buxton.

FUNERAL SERVICE: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Buxton, ND.

VISITATION: 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. with a 7pm prayer service Tuesday, April 15 at Amundson Funeral Home 2975 S. 42nd St. Grand Forks, ND 58201.

INTERMENT: Later Spring Immanuel East Cemetery, Buxton, ND.
