Bonnie L. Fortlage (Nienas), 64, of Grand Forks, ND passed away on Friday, April 11, 2014 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.

Bonnie Lee Nienas was born February 2, 1950 in Grand Forks, ND, the first daughter of Rodger and Dorothy (Nefs) Nienas. Bonnie grew up in Grand Forks, where she attend St. James Catholic High School, graduating in 1968. She then attended St. Joseph School of Nursing in Fargo, ND, graduating in 1972. Upon graduation, she followed in the footsteps of her father and joined the United States Navy. She was commissioned into the Navy Nurse Corps as a Second Lieutenant in San Diego, CA. After retirement from the Navy, she returned to Grand Forks and was employed as a nurse with United Hospital for a few years. She moved to Charleston, SC where she was employed as an Intensive Care Unit Nurse. After Hurricane Hugo, she moved to Little Rock, AR and worked in ICU and home health care. Due to health issues, she retired and returned home to Grand Forks, to be close to her family. Bonnie enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, going to visit her parents at their lake cabin, spending time with her sister, reading, sewing, crafting and volunteering at St. Michael's Catholic Church. She also had a love for dogs. Even though Bonnie did not have children of her own she loved spending time with her nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her father, Rodger Nienas ; a sister, Nancy Nienas, both of Grand Forks, ND; nieces, Amy (Brian) Fandrich, Alexandria, MN, Mari Bertsch, Clearwater, MN, and Katie Larson, Starbuck, MN; a nephew, Chris (Kellie) Choate, Grand Forks, ND. She is also remembered by her 2 great-nephews and 5 great-nieces, whom she loved very much.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Nienas, and a niece, Kristie Larson.

Memorial Liturgy: 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014 in the Historic Norman Funeral Home-Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel.

Family Greeting: One hour prior to the liturgy in the funeral home on Wednesday.

Interment: Calvary Cemetery, Reynolds, ND, in the spring.

Military Honors: Accorded by the American Legion Post 157, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817 and the North Dakota National Guard, at the time of interment.
