Bismarck man killed as van rear-ends payloader

MAX, N.D. -- A 55-year-old Bismarck man is dead after the van he was driving rear-ended a payloader Wednesday on U.S. Highway 83 about six miles south of Max, the North Dakota Highway Patrol reported.

Roger A. Stickler was driving a Chevrolet Express Van in the southbound right lane of the four-lane highway about 1:20 p.m. when he rear-ended the payloader, which also was traveling in the right lane at about 20 mph, according to a news release from the patrol.

Stickler was pronounced dead at the scene. The payloader’s driver, 48-year-old Christopher Wickman of Minot, was injured and taken by ambulance to a Minot hospital.
