With 7:13 remaining in the second quarter, Warroad got on the board first when Logan Wallace connected with Jason Cole for a 62-yard touchdown pass.

The Rams answered twice before half time, the first on a 26-yard Alec Valenzuela run with 4:05 to go before the half. Three minutes later, Valenzuela scored again on a 55 yard run.

Casey Warner sealed the win for Roseau on a 3-yard touchdown run in the fourth.

Valenzuela finished with 159 yards on 18 carries.

The Warriors were led by Cole, who finished with two receptions for 67 yards.

“We concentrated on (blocking) this week,” said Roseau coach George Ziegler. “The offensive line coaches worked with the kids on keeping their feet moving and it paid off tonight.”

When asked about how his young team performed in their season opener, coach Ziegler was pleased with the effort.

“It was what we were hoping for,” he said. “We didn’t know what to expect with the inexperience of our offensive line. We were hoping they would do the job up front and they did.”

With the success on the ground, Roseau kept Warroad’s offense off the field and capitalized on turnovers for a Week 1 victory.

Up next for Roseau, the Rams play host to Detroit Lakes next Friday, while Warroad heads home to take on Frazee.
