Three out of five stars.

If you’ve ever wanted to ask a stranger where they got their cute shoes or chic jacket but haven’t had the guts, the new app ASAP54 could be your new solution. But, don’t expect the app to find exactly what you’re looking for.

ASAP54 has been likened to the Shazam of fashion. In my mind, that means you snap a photo of a shirt and seconds later the app correctly identifies the item and brand, just like Shazam quickly identifies the title and artist of a song. Unfortunately, that’s not quite what ASAP54 does.

Users upload photos of fashion they see on the streets and select the type of clothing. Then, the app shows them similar items of the same color or pattern, which the user can then view and purchase.

The app also has a social networking aspect, allowing users to like, comment and follow one another’s activity.

ASAP54 is full of beautiful fashions and is easy to navigate. It allows users to easily find similar items of the same color or pattern. With the ability to create wish lists and save searches, the app acts as an inspiration board.

The downfall of the app is in its accuracy. While the color is typically spot-on, the type of item is far from it. For example, a photo of a men’s button down shirt will yield results with similar colored sweaters, sweat shirts and any other long sleeve shirt.

The app would benefit from an update that included more specific categories to help users find what they’re searching for.

For now, if you’re just looking to match a specific color, ASAP54 is the perfect solution. But, if you’re looking to identify an item by brand, you’ll want to look elsewhere.
