Amateur radio club plans event in Grand Forks
Ham Radio enthusiasts from around the region will gather in Grand Forks this weekend to participate in the Amateur Radio Relay League’s Field Day.
The FORX Amateur Radio Club will host the event from 1 p.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. Sunday at the Yoshida Farm, 1079 Harvest Lane N.E., Thompson, N.D. The farm actually is located south of Grand Forks, near the Grand Forks Country Club.
The annual event draws more than 35,000 radio amateurs in clubs throughout the nation in a competition to see who can contact the most stations in a 24-hour period. Usually, about 20 FORX club members participate, although the number can vary from year to year, according to Nancy Yoshida, a club member.
She said it’s an opportunity for newer amateur radio enthusiasts to learn good operating procedures, as well as how to set up various antennas.
The club also will have the use of the Grand Forks Fire Department’s emergency communications trailer, as well as other equipment.
