90th Birthday

Else Marie Aas was born on March 24, 1924 in Oslo, Norway. Her parents were Kari Nedreberg and Petter Kasper Aas. Unfortunately, Else's father passed away when she was only 2 years old. Her mother, Kari, remarried Nils Hilde. At age 11, Else traveled by ship from Norway to Ellis Island, New York with her Mother and Step-father in the fall of 1935. The family moved to Hatton, ND where she attended a Country High School and graduated in 1942. She then attended Aakers Business College and graduated in 1943. Else got a job at the County Courthouse and worked there until 1948 when she returned to Norway. In 1950, Else decided to move back to Grand Forks, ND as she missed her friends and she would lose her US Citizenship if she did not return.

In 1952, Else met the love of her life, Arthur Rike, who was a Deputy Sheriff. They were married September 2, 1956. And Art became Sheriff from 1956-1960, after which he was the Juvenile Supervisor. They were blessed with two children, Renae in 1958 and Kathryn in 1961. In 1981, Else lost her husband, Art, to heart disease. She continued working at the courthouse upon her return from Norway and retired from the Auditors Office in 1989. She continued to work part-time for several more years. Else also started doing Income Tax returns in 1961 and continues to do them to this day.

Else holds many things dear to her heart. Her family; Brother, Thorman Hilde, (British Columbia), Daughters; Renae Rike-Fee (Williston, ND), Kathryn (Katie) Rike ( GF, ND), Grandchildren; Kassandra (Brad) (Hanson)Gorder, Danielle Denney (Hastings, MN), Kaleb Rike (GF, ND), Olivia (Maizey) Rike-Norman (GF, ND) and Great-Grandson; Nolan Gorder (Williston, ND). One niece; Liv Hilde and one nephew; Omar Hilde. She also holds very dear to her heart her numerous friends, her Church and Sons of Norway. Else loves to spend her spare time reading and living out at her lake cottage in the summers.

In Celebration of Else's 90th Birthday, there will be an Open House on May 4, 2014 from 2:00pm - 4:00pm at the Sons of Norway Lodge in Grand Forks, ND.
